So you’re in the process of comparing prices between duplicating services – a good first step! An informed choice is something we encourage. Here are some things to consider.
We double-check every element.
Is “good enough” ever the desired result? A great deal of planning, preparation of the raw materials and inspection of the results is required to end up with a high quality retail-ready package. So when you bring your project in to be copied we will do everything we can to ensure that the finished product is the way you want it.
You have standards, and so do we.
We exist to make sure the audio and the print meet industry standards. If you engage a discount service, be prepared to live with the shortcomings of your knowledge of the audio and print delivery guidelines.
Getting it right the first time.
Some clients have come in with a photo, liner notes and some layout ideas and asked us to put the ideas together for them. Some of our clients have also brought in camera-ready art in the requested formats, requiring the bare minimum of work on our part.
Almost all of them required a half-hour minimum in layout tweaking or coaching over the phone or the web. This time is included in the prices we charge. Everything takes time so in order to save some we will be available to consult with graphic designers on imminent projects. We are here to help you avoid legibility issues, format errors and especially resolution mistakes.
Client responsibility
We can sell you 500 CDs with 2 colour disc face, a 2 panel insert and tray card (4/1), including film for $875 (Canadian) + taxes. But you will be responsible for ensuring that the materials you supply conform to the true specifications for film and files and supply a proof so that we can check the colour. And you'll probably want to have a colour corrected computer monitor to view the print proofs. We check our monitors constantly. We want you to get it right – not only does it lower your cost but also it makes the process that much easier and timely. So the price we charge allows us the time to bring your project up to industry quality standards.
Currency conscious
Make sure the quote you receive is in Canadian dollars. Some discount services can lure you with American figures. This did not matter in early and middle 2008 but now the American customers might be wise to order from us while we still have raw materials purchased with the dollar at par.
Be wary of shortcuts.
You may be tempted to cut corners by doing some of the legwork yourself (multiple stop shopping) in hopes of saving some money. Unfortunately, past experience has taught us this can make matters worse. Some clients have spent way more money and time because one of the service providers they used (film output, printed material, graphic design) did not do their job properly the first time. When all the work is coordinated and executed under one production standard, troubleshooting is more effective. In other words, spare yourself the hassle and headache.
The bigger picture
We help our clients plan their projects. If there is ever a problem we make sure it is remedied. You don't want to depend on an underpaid or over-promised agency trying to make time to solve a problem that they did not catch the first time through.
Eliminating the risk
You may have heard of or even undergone one of the numerous horror stories in the business. All of the manufacturers have problems from time to time. We deal with ISO-certified manufacturing plants so at least they are trying to eliminate mistakes by tracking the work. Even the major labels receive product that they reject for defects in manufacturing.
On the other side of this coin, the requirements for the format and delivery of masters is strictly controlled so get us involved early to avoid extra work.
You get what you pay for.
We have watched the "discount services" go bust and leave the printer and the pressing plant holding the bag while the current clients lose their deposit, requiring the full amount for manufacturing be paid (again) before releasing the order. We recently had to bail out a prominent local choir whose 550-unit CD-r order from different masters was not filled according to the agreement with some other service. Needless to say, we have a pleased (and relieved) new client. As usual the buyer is wise to beware of the too good deal. You do indeed get what you pay for.
We are eager to meet you!
Our prices are competitive; we are on the Yonge subway line and have been doing this type of business from this location for more than twenty years.
